Do something, no matter how small, because even small steps can make a big difference!
We say, we have to protect our environment and preserve nature. This is wrong. Mother nature protects us. We can not survive without her protection. We belong to the Nature. The fact that we have destroied our nature is the very reason that we have to protect her.
I remember to read one interesting article about an egg written by one Korean poet few years ago. He described an egg, that we are consuming everyday, as the product of anger and stress. Under the mass production system, chickens spend most of their lives in a small individual cage. They have no chance to run outside, breathe fresh air, and enjoy hunting bugs. They are not allowed to move, besides producing eggs. They are not allowed to eat what they want besides artificial feed provided by human beings. Under this horrible circumstance, there is no doubt that chickens feel lots of stress. However, they have no way to show their unhappiness and anger. Holding all anger inside of them, hens produce eggs, the prodict of anger! How horribly have we treated other creatures around us? How ugly greedy we are! Moreover, how can these angly eggs be good for our health?
I have been interested in environmental issues since I was a middle school student. Although I do not call myself as environmental activist, I concern about nature. I may be a so called "lazy environmentalist." I have been trying to change my life style in a nature friendly way little by little. I have been trying to encourage people around me thinking about environmental issues. I do not hesitate making people horrified by talking about environmental horro stories, such as angly eggs, mad cow disease and so forth. I hope more friends join me and do something for our nature, NO MATTER HOW SMALL IT IS!
